“but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
// Genesis 2:17 (ESV)
God was right, when he told us that we should die, if we ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But we decided that we knew better than him, and ate of the tree anyway. We chose not to trust God, and instead to commit rebellion against him.
Our only hope now, is a loving god that are in the resurrection business. A god so full of life, joy, creativity and love, that nothing can stop him. A god so loving, that he chooses to go through death and pain, to save even his own enemies – to save us. A god that meets us where we are, not where we should be – and brings us to life again.
Luckily, there is a god, who does exactly that. His name is Jesus Christ.
He came to earth, to meet us in our own mud.
Lived that life, in perfect love to others – to us – that we are incapable of living.
Died that death on the cross, that belonged to us – humiliated, lonely, and forsaken by his father in heaven.
Defeated death for us, in his resurrection.
And gives us now, freely, his righteousness, and holds us, while we go through this broken and ruined world, to the next. A world, where he has promised us, that we again shall live in perfect peace and love to him, and each other.
Everything we did, was to rebel against him, so we ended up as his enemies. God did the rest.
Christ is our only, but sure hope, in a dead and dying world.
He is the God of life and love.
He knows your darkest secrets, and loves you anyway… no, that’s not powerful enough… he is madly crazy about you, even in your inability to love, and in your rebellion against him. A greater love doesn’t exist.
So, don’t fear, he knows what he is doing, and he isn’t mad at you.
Instead, be still, listen to his loving words from the cross, and let him hold you.
